Sep 21 2024
Join this deep and dynamic begin of the “fall season 2024”. 🍃🥋 Aikido Berlin is pleased to welcome Kayla Feder Shihan, 7th dan Aikikai, from Aikido of Berkeley, USA, in Berlin again in September 2024 for an international Aikido weekend seminar.

🗓 Seminar dates: 21.09.2024 - 22.09.2024

📍Location: Münchener Straße 49, 10779 Berlin

🔥 Seminar topic: Listening Deeply 👂🏼💗🥋🎵🌍

keichou : to listen closely, attentively

"During this weekend seminar, I will remind us to listen deeply with our entire being. Not just our ears, but our heart, mind, our whole body and spirit. We talk about the spirit, it’s something that is felt and can not be talked about with ease. My hope is that we will feel our spirit, that bubbling well of energy and joy, while we practice together… while we listen deeply. Listening deeply will encourage us to feel the largeness of our spirit and that which is often difficult to put into words. We will be reminded to listen as nage and as uke. We will also examine some of O-Sensei’s words, listening, then practicing together, and listening again.“ —Kayla Feder

🔸 About Kayla Feder Shihan

Kayla Feder Shihan, 7th dan Aikikai, is the founder and chief instructor at Aikido of Berkeley. In 1973 at age of 9 Kayla fell in love with Aikido and now has over 50 years of continuous training in the art. For the first 20 years of her practice, she was greatly inspired by training under Morihiro Saito Shihan, who was one of the Morihei Ueshiba’s closest students. In 1980 Kayla Sensei traveled to Iwama, Japan to train with Saito Shihan as an uchi deshi (live-in apprentice). During subsequent trips to study Aikido in Japan, Sensei trained under many direct students of the founder of Aikido, including Kisshomaru Ueshiba, Seiichi Sugano, Motomichi Anno, and Kazuo Chiba. Since childhood she has also practiced with and been strongly influenced by Frank Doran Shihan, Robert Nadeau Shihan, and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

Kayla Sensei teaches seminars throughout the US and Europe. In addition to her Aikido accomplishments she received a Masters degree in Holistic Health Education from JFK University.

Kayla Sensei recognizes that we all have different bodies, histories, ages and learning styles. She is dedicated to making Aikido accessible for anyone and her teaching style supports the individual growth of each student. She has created a warm and welcoming community at Aikido of Berkeley. Sensei also includes yoga and meditation practices as part of the training at Aikido of Berkeley. She views Aikido as a holistic art and has said: “There is no end to the growth and learning we aspire to through our Aikido practice both on and off the mat”. She continues to dedicate herself to the daily process of changing and growing within herself and her practice and teaching of Aikido.

We are happy to announce that this year’s seminar will also take place at our dojo.
